Dr. Amar G. Bose founded the Bose Company in 1964. Dr. Bose had been a professor of electrical engineering at MIT and decided to go into home electronics after purchasing a stereo system and learning that the speakers did not manage to recapture the "realism" that comes with being at a live performance. He worked mostly with psychoacoustics and speaker design and released the 901 Direct/Reflecting speakers in 1968. The Bose Company is also responsible for the Wave® radio and the Wave® music systems (regular and acoustic). They have also forced the world to rethink the relationship between a speaker's size and its sound with their Acoustimass® speaker technology.
The Bose home theatre system came into its own with the 2001 3-2-1® Home Entertainment system. The system is DVD based and offers movie theatre quality sound with only a hideaway Acoustimass module and two speakers.
Home Theater How To
There are three major categories of Bose home theatre system. The first is the Lifestyle® system, the 3-2-1® DVD system and the Acoustimass® speaker system.
The Lifestyle system boasts the ability to optimize the audio performance for whatever room holds the theatre system. It can store music as well as manage it and offers a "whole-home-audio" system that lets you control all of the audio in your home from just one audio system. The Lifestyle system also offers HDMI connectivity.
The 3-2-1® DVD system gives you the same sound that you would get from other home theatre systems but without the middle or the rear speakers. This means that you don't have to wire the speakers in the back of the room. This system, like the Lifestyle system, will store your music as well as manage it.
The Acoustimass® speaker systems have always been popular. These speaker systems give you a home theatre sound system that is meant to integrate seamlessly with your already present audio and visual components. You can use these speakers with both 5.1 and 6.1 channel audio. The system will give you a great performance even at frequencies that are very deep. People who use the Acoustimass system say it offers a lifelike and "spacious" sound.
If you aren't sure which Bose home theatre system is right for you, you can visit the Bose website and use their home theatre selection guide to help you narrow down your options. The selection system is an interactive flash system that asks you questions that determine what you need as well as what you want.
