Home Theatre Lighting Will Make Or Break You're Viewing Pleasure
Indirect Lighting
Imagine the first time you ever went to a theatre to see a movie. For most of us it was a Saturday morning or afternoon matinee. When you walked into the lobby it was well lit and very easy to move around in. However, when you stepped from the lobby into the theatre itself, you immediately were surrounded by darkness. It was actually a little scary because you couldn't see a thing.
But as you stood there your vision began to adapt to the darkness and you realized the theatre did have the lights on. You were also able to determine the lighting was far up on the walls and dim. This may well have been your first experience of indirect lighting and you realized this type of lighting actually enhanced the viewing of the movie.

Principals of Lighting
These very same principals of lighting also apply to your home theatre lighting. If there is too much lighting or not enough you will find that you won't enjoy the movie you’re watching as much. However, with the proper lighting you actually increase the enjoyment of the movie you’re watching.
You already know that during the daylight hours you have too much glare on the TV screen, which makes it difficult to get a good picture. To help correct this quickly you can change your drapes to a darker color with a dark liner. However, perhaps you would actually prefer lighter color drapes, a quick fix for this would be to have a separate "black out curtain or liner" which could be closed or opened as needed. Now that you have resolved the daylight glare let’s take a quick look the lighting needed during the night hours.
Night Lighting
The simplest, quickest and inexpensive way to improve the quality of your viewing, during the evening hours, is to turn on the lights in your home theatre room and observe which are creating a glare on the screen. Simply by you moving a lamp from one location to another may eliminate or at least substantially reduce the glare. However, indirect lighting strategically placed around the room, will enable you to capture the true viewing pleasure you experience at a professional theatre.
Summary
As you have read it is true that the proper or improper use, of home theatre lighting, can make or break your viewing pleasure.
