Many people dream of having an entire room to devote to their home theater. Movie enthusiasts love the idea of being able to take a room in their home and recreate the movie-going experience. They want to line up the chairs, get a popcorn machine and spend their days ensconced in their own little home cinema. Of course not everyone has the space or the budget to devote an entire room to the home theater, but here are a few hints to take whatever space you have and make it feel like home theater rooms.
Home theater rooms do not have to be literal rooms. They can be designated areas of a family room, a den, and a basement-basically anyplace can be turned into a home theater.
One of the best ways to turn a corner of a family room (or other room) into a home theater room is to use furniture to block off the area that you want to devote to your movie watching and console gaming. The easiest way to do this is to use a couch that has a high back and place it in the middle of the larger room and facing the television set. Sometimes you can take a second couch or a large chair and place it perpendicular to the couch to block off a corner of the room (just make sure to leave enough space for people to walk through).
Home Theater How To
Another hint, if you are really desperate to have your home theater feel like home theater rooms is to buy some of those inexpensive screens and place them at different angles to create makeshift walls. The only drawback to screens is that because they do create "walls" they often make the rest of the room feel much smaller than it already is.
When your home theater rooms are really just a corner or a section of another room, you might be tempted to use surround sound speakers. For one thing, it will contain the noise of your viewing experience and it will make the space feel more intimate. Often though, the surround sound speakers will need to be mounted on something or placed under a table and you will lose some of the effect. Stick to your standard frontal speakers. You'll still have great sound quality but you won't have to worry about speaker placement.
If you want to maximize space in your home theater rooms, think about investing in a flat panel television screen that you can mount to your wall. This will open up space for furniture or give you more space to lie around in.
DVD storage systems can also be a great way to designate where your home theater rooms begin and the rest of the room ends.
These are just a few hints to help you create home theater rooms inside the rooms of your home that need to remain multifunctional, like your family room or your basement. Just because you have less space doesn't mean that your viewing experience has to be diminished.
